Redford reaffirms 2016 claim: One more film and he's done acting
Robert Redford told Entertainment Weekly he is indeed retiring from acting after he finishes his new film "The Old Man & The Gun."
The 81-year-old actor said he is making good on his 2016 claim about retiring.
"Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I'll] move towards retirement after this because I've been doing it since I was 21," he said. "I thought, well, that's enough. And why not go out with something that's very upbeat and positive?"
Redford said the story in "Old Man" helped shepherd him to this conclusion. In the David Lowery-directed film, Redford plays Forrest Tucker, the real-life career criminal in love with his self-appointed job of robbing banks and breaking out of prison 17 times.
When asked about future directing projects, Redford said, "We'll see about that," EW reported. In 1981, Redford won a Best Director Academy Award for 1980's "Ordinary People." He's directed eight other feature films and also founded the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival.
"The Old Man & The Gun," which Redford also produced, co-stars Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover, Tom Waits and Casey Affleck, and will be released via Fox Searchlight on Sept. 28, EW reported.
