New 'Tootsie' musical to play Chicago before Broadway

Chicago-area audiences will be the first to see the stage adaptation of "Tootsie," a Broadway-bound musical making its world premiere at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in September.

Broadway in Chicago announced Wednesday that a musical version of the beloved 1982 film comedy, which starred Dustin Hoffman, will have its world premiere at the Cadillac Palace from Tuesday, Sept. 11, to Sunday, Oct. 14.

The musical will star Santino Fontana, best known for voicing Prince Hans in Disney's "Frozen," as an out-of-work actor who becomes a soap opera star by posing as a woman. Keeping up the ruse gets harder when he falls for his female co-star.

"Tootsie" will feature a score by David Yazbek ("The Full Monty," "The Band's Visit"), a book by Robert Horn ("Dame Edna, Back With a Vengeance"), choreography by Denis Jones ("Honeymoon in Vegas," "Holiday Inn") and direction by Scott Ellis ("She Loves Me," "On the Twentieth Century"). Additional casting and creative team members are to be announced later.

Group tickets of 10 or more are on sale now by calling (312) 977-1710, while individual tickets will go on sale at a later date. For more information, visit broadwayinchicago.com.
