Dodge, Drink & Dine

Pairing dining and drinking with dodgeball might just wipe out all those nasty memories of third-grade gym class. And you can enjoy all three while raising money for a good cause. The Geneva Library Foundation presents Dodge, Drink, & Dine -- an adults-only dodgeball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center from 6 to 11 p.m. The event features mixed drinks from Fox River Distilling Company and beer from Stockholm's and Penrose Brewing of Geneva and Two Brothers Brewing of Warrenville. A buffet dinner from Rosati's Catering and one drink ticket are included with a fee of $25 for spectators or $35 to play. Get tickets at Stephen Persinger Recreation Center is at 3507 Kaneville Road, Geneva,

Cheers to Aviary

A list of the World's 50 Best Bars was announced last week in London. The ranking, created by the votes of "industry experts" in 55 countries, hits a number of hot cities -- including New York, Paris and London. No suburban bars made the cut, but a Chicago spot did. Aviary, hailed for its "theatrical cocktails," came in at No. 41. The ranking also singled out Aviary's ice. Yes, ice. Apparently, the bar's ice room produces 39 types designed to flavor as well as cool. In fact, Aviary's In the Rocks traps liquor inside an ice sphere, and it's released with the strike of a hammer. Check out the full list -- just in case you are jetting off to San Francisco, Sydney or Singapore -- at Aviary is at 955 W. Fulton Market, Chicago, (312) 226-0868,
