The Barley House in Algonquin is offering 13 types of beer for the fall season and for its Oktobeerfest celebration. Specialty beers include Rogue Octoberfest, Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin, Dogfish Punkin and Great Lakes Octoberfest. Patrons can win a free Oktobeerfest T-shirt by sampling all 13 beers before Saturday, Oct. 31.

Hugo's Frog Bar and Fish House in Naperville is inviting its guests to dine on fresh wild king salmon and halibut before changes take place nationally in the fishing seasons on Thursday, Oct. 15. After this date, only frozen halibut and farm-raised varieties of salmon will be available to U.S. restaurants. Hugo's will serve its fresh fish with fare that includes brocolini with a lemon caper sauce and arugula salad with an apple Dijon vinaigrette.

Happy birthday, Confucius!

Koi of Evanston is celebrating the birthday of Confucius, the famed Chinese philosopher, with a special "Confucius menu" for its dine-in guests on Thursday, Oct. 15. Every item on the menu will hold a special Chinese meaning. Fare includes Lychee Chicken, which is said to bring prosperity; the Szechwan Won Ton has a peanut sauce, since peanuts are believed to bring a long life. And the whole fish in a sweet-and-sour sauce symbolizes abundance and togetherness.
