Letter: Remember sacrifices made for freedom

However, this is not a day to remember battles or wars, but a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

We need to remember today and every day the millions of American heroes who gave up their lives to keep us free, to defend our values and protect our way of life. We are humbled by their sacrifice, inspired by their dedication and ever grateful for their commitment.

Sadly, many did not return. But their sacrifice was not in vain, for they knew this was the cost of war, paid in blood by those who raised their hand when their country called upon them.

Those gallant men and women who took this oath to "Support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that they will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; So help me God". That oath still resonates in the voices of every one of our fallen heroes. They stood tall when our country called them to serve.

Now as the years pass and the memories of those sent off to war become more distant for many, we must keep in mind their sacrifice for the preservation of our freedom.

It is our sacred duty to make sure the names of our fallen heroes and their memory is not lost to history.

May God continue to bless them. We must never forget them.
