Letter: Remember all who died serving others

With Memorial Day at hand, it's a good time to remember all those brave people who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service to their country.

Of course, war veterans come immediately to mind - but why stop there?

While the horror of the recent pandemic is still fresh in our minds we might also remember those valiant doctors, nurses and paramedics who spent long, exhaustive hours in emergency rooms battling a fatal disease that ultimately took their lives.

Also, those unheralded policemen and women whose numbers are rapidly being depleted by violent individuals who have no regard for human life.

Wouldn't this holiday be an ideal time to recall their service to our communities as well?

Although this weekend can be about frolicking in the sun as summer finally arrives, it needn't be our sole mission to have fun when there are so many courageous Americans worth remembering.
