Beyond the Byline: Gregor has seen evolution of baseball over three decades of covering the Sox

Scot Gregor is the Daily Herald's Chicago White Sox beat writer, a position he's held since 1994.

He's won multiple awards, most recently a first-place honor in 2021 from the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association for best sports columns.

On the Sox beat for nearly three decades, Gregor has seen the game evolve from home runs and ERA to WAR and BABIP. After spending endless hours watching games through the years, he's looking forward to the pitch clock this season and making it back home from the ballpark before midnight from time to time.

Gregor has also provided extensive coverage on the Cubs through their recent playoff runs and during the off-season.

Through all the roster and statistical changes, he still enjoys the game of baseball as much as he did as a kid growing up in Pittsburgh and watching Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell play at Forbes Field and Three Rivers Stadium.

An Ohio University graduate, Gregor has lived in Palatine for more than 25 years and has a wife and two children.

He coached both of his kids in Park District basketball for eight years and turns to golf and fishing when taking a break from Major League Baseball.
