Endorsements: Cappell, George and Boatner for Campton Hills village board

This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

It's a good situation when you find several candidates in a race with thoughtful ideas and the energy to take part in the governing process. Campton Hills voters will find themselves with some difficult decisions to make April 4, as did we in this endorsement process.

We listened carefully to Nicolas Boatner, Janet Burson, Charles Cappell, Sue George and Tim Morgan during our endorsement interview and found them all worthy. One question that came up: How much value do we give to experience in matters related to Campton Hills government vs. the need for fresh ideas?

Candidates Rob Klinkey and Michael Warick did not take part in our endorsement interview, nor did they reply to emails about the interview. Wendy K. White Eagle opted not to take part. We have concerns about whether they have the time to devote to the office and the commitment it requires.

In the end, we opted to go with a mix of experience and fresh ideas. We endorse Charles Cappell, Sue George and Nicolas Boatner. Cappell represents the experience argument. We found him to be very knowledgeable about the issues but still willing to consider new ideas.

Cappell's knowledge and thoughtful approach should mix well with the fresh thoughts George and Boatner will bring to the village. Although he was not alone in the concerns, Boatner's emphasis on transparency and communications with the community also appealed to us.
