Endorsement: Tyrell for Campton Hills village president

This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

Incumbent Mike Tyrrell and challenger Barbara Wojnicki have both proven themselves to be good candidates for Campton Hills village president. They are both bright people with many years of service to the community and good ideas for its advancement.

Wojnicki rightly wants to prepare Campton Hills for the loss of motor fuel tax funds as electric vehicles grow their share of the number of cars on Illinois roads. Both promise to work diligently to maintain Campton Hills' semirural character. Both see village roads as the spending priority for the next president.

They disagree over whether Campton Hills can spend money to help residents water drainage issues for residents under state law. Wojnicki argues ARPA funds can be used, but Tyrrell contends they cannot because Campton Hills is not a home rule community, so how it is allowed to use funds is limited.

They also have differences over zoning allowing animals in subdivisions and the parking at village hall, which often is used for a restaurant nearby. The parking situation becomes an issue during lunch hour, with people seeking to do business at village hall having trouble finding a place to park.

While we believe that Campton Hills residents would do well with either candidate, Tyrrell is endorsed for a second term. He has led a government that is debt free and seems to be meeting the needs of its residents with a collaborative style of leadership.
