Letter: Electricity cost is reasonable

ComEd recently requested a rate increase that would be spread over several years. Most of the coverage has been negative, although one newspaper article did mention that ComEd's rates were lower than rates in other large cities.

I frequently receive mailings from ComEd that we use more electricity than our neighbors. That's probably because we have an electric range and an electric clothes dryer. I looked at my electric bills for the past year and the highest one was in the summer and was still only half of what I pay each month for cable TV.

And we have a basic package with no premium movie channels. When I think of the value added by having electricity available 24/7 to power virtually everything in our home compared to the value I receive from watching TV, I consider my electric bill to be very reasonable, if not a bargain.
