Letter: Please don't sideline bookmobile in Gurnee

The bookmobile makes biweekly neighborhood stops and is stocked with library materials. The Warren-Newport Public Library board is planning to cut the bookmobile's neighborhood service and only use it for events.

In my family, we call it the "bookbus." I've been going to the bookmobile since I could walk up the steps. In third grade, I chose the bookmobile as my favorite place in the community. When I'm home, I still go to it regularly. It was integral in facilitating my literacy at an early age and inspiring my lifelong love of reading.

It is an essential library service. It allows the library to be present, visible, and make lasting connections in a way that could not be achieved by using it only for community events. It also serves people in our community who may not be able to access the library. Losing such a treasured resource will hurt engagement with the library overall.
