Letter: Stop pandering for votes on immigration issue

One thing I don't understand is why the Biden administration, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago are so worked up about a few busloads of migrants. Aren't these sanctuary cities that say they welcome all immigrants?

Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Lightfoot have gone on record saying all migrants are welcome to the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago. This, the same mayor that couldn't handle a few busloads of migrants and had to house them in Darien because of the lack of resources. It is also the governor that issued an emergency proclamation order when the busloads arrived.

They can't handle the pressure, but the southern states along the border, according to NBC news, are expected to handle approximately 225,000 immigrants a month and 2,760,000, yes that 2.76 million with an M, in 2022. That's almost equal to the sum total population of Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska and North Dakota combined.

How are these southern states to provide food, shelter, medical care, and education for millions of immigrants a year? Instead of complaining about the bussing being "a cruel political stunt," why aren't these so called "sanctuary cities" sending buses to transport these immigrants and take some of the pressure off the southern states? It's time to do something about immigration laws and stop pandering for votes.
