Letter: Grateful for help from first responders

I am writing to express our gratitude and thanks for the above-and-beyond service given to us last week by our Arlington Heights Police Department and the Arlington Heights Fire Department.

My sister and I were driving to an appointment. About halfway on our trip, the specially equipped SUV began to smoke from the hood with a strong smell of gasoline.

After pulling the car off a busy street, we were able to exit the vehicle. Both departments arrived quickly and determined the car was not drivable with the damage that occurred.

We are especially grateful to Officer Croon who stayed with us while he helped us call a tow for the car and worked to find us special transportation for my sister back home on our first really frigid day.

He really went above and beyond as it is so difficult to find transportation quickly for a person who uses a special powered scooter for ambulation.

We are so grateful to Officer Croon and his fellow officers who came to our aide in a very difficult situation. Thank you to every member of our Arlington Heights Police and Fire Departments who also put their lives on the line every day for all of us.
