Letter: A risk the GOP should consider

Regarding Sunday's front-page article on the GOP getting "shellacked" in the recent election, in part due to the abortion issue: "Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. ... Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion." (Excerpts from paragraphs 2270 and 2271, Catechism of the Catholic Church.)

Extremism and radicalism are elastic terms, and by today's standards in Illinois governance and nationally, and generally in the media, these quoted words express an extremist and radical position on the issue of abortion.

In my circle of family and friends most, if not all, would agree with the teaching without reservation. The risk that the GOP would run if it abandons us, is our abandoning the GOP.
