Endorsement: Sosnowski for 69th state House

This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

It's refreshing to hear a legislator who is opposed to the SAFE-T Act make an articulate, measured argument and not repeat debunked social media claims.

Republican Joe Sosnowski, a former Rockford City Council member, is running for reelection in the 69th state House District. In our editorial board interview, Sosnowski explained his objection to the elimination of cash bail with a salient point about court administration, not with a breathless prediction of “The Purge.”

Challenger Peter Janko, a Marengo Democrat who ran in the 63rd state House District primary in 2020, has many ideas we support, and we encourage him to pursue elected office at the local or county level. But rational counterpoints are important in the political process. Sosnowski can deliver them and thus receives our endorsement.
