Letter: School district erred in eliminating advisory panel

St. Charles School District 303 recently eliminated its Citizens' Advisory Committee. I think this is a serious mistake.

The "listening sessions" they propose to hold are commendable and useful, but do not provide the more in-depth two-way dialogue that regularly occurs at CAC meetings.

I have participated in the District 200 CAC for the last five years and have found it to be an exceptional vehicle for open discussion with district staff, allowing for more detailed exploration of issues, open discussion among CAC members and district staff, and more thoughtful feedback that the district and school board needs in these challenging times.

Further, CAC members take their role very seriously, communicating with and seeking feedback from their known associates.

I recommend that they reconsider their decision, and encourage other school districts that don't have a CAC to implement one.
