Letter: Gun inaction calls for one-issue vote

In the past I have voted for candidates who share most, but not all, of my views on the issues that face us. I have never been a "one issue" voter.

But that has all changed with the increase in shootings, many of which were carried out with automatic weapons purchased legally. There is no reason for anyone to ever have assault-style weapons and extended magazines.

It's obvious that the process used to permit gun ownership needs to change. Whatever information is gathered to authorize gun ownership is not effective in keeping guns away from those who should not have access to them.

I will contact campaigns to ask for the candidates' views on assault weapons and will vote only for those who not only oppose assault weapons, but candidates who will work to forbid these weapons in our country.
