Letter: Good climate coverage

I'd like to thank the Daily Herald for their excellent climate coverage, and especially three recent pieces covering the status of Illinois' Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. Jenny Whidden's article of July 30 discusses how Illinois still lags on transportation, building development and industry support. An editorial opinion piece on Aug. 5 wisely calls for "more work to hasten development of renewable energy sources" and an article by Jerry Nowicki on Aug. 6 details challenges state agencies face in coordinating multiple state and federal funding sources to advance electric vehicle (EV) adoption, charging infrastructure and related utility power demands.

The Inflation Reduction Act has been passed by the U.S. Senate and House and is headed for President Biden's signature. With $360 billion in additional climate provisions, including more support for clean power, manufacturing and EVs, this bill should help fulfill CEJA's potential to make Illinois a national leader in the burgeoning energy economy.
