Letter: Constable columns will be missed
On Thursday, I learned that Burt Constable will be writing his last column for the Daily Herald. I am, and have always been, a great fan of his columns. I admit that this news filled me with mixed emotions. I am happy that he is about to retire and enjoy life without deadlines, but I selfishly admit that The Daily Herald will not be the same without him.
In these troubled times, I tend to read the headline stories and turn quickly to his column. Over the years, he has written stories about people we know, and people we would like to know. He has reminded us that there are good, unselfish people in this world.
Mr. Constable wrote about our communities, informing us of events and the hardworking people who make them happen. He connected us to historical events that occurred in Chicagoland, sharing his feelings and sense of awe.
His stories about his personal experiences touched our hearts and connected to his readers on so many levels. So, I thank you, Mr. Constable and wish you all the best in retirement.
Perhaps we will see you on the road - we'll be driving our 2008 Prius.
