Letter: A protector of reproductive rights

With Roe Vs. Wade about to be overturned, I will be fighting for my rights and the rights of my children, to make their own decisions. With so much at stake, I trust women to fight for reproductive rights. That person is Congresswoman Marie Newman. Marie shared her own personal story, and I believe that lived experience, and her voting record in Congress, show that she won't stop fighting for us. In Congress, she has voted for essential issues like expanding federal paid family leave, passing the Women's Health Protection Act, the Paycheck Fairness Act, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the Violence Against Women Act and has pressed Congress to ratify the ERA.

Women's rights activists across the country are behind her, too. This cycle, Marie has already been endorsed by Emily's List, National Organization for Women, the National Women's Political Caucus and more. They recognize that her voting record spans the spectrum of issues affecting all women, and I value their insight.

Marie Newman has been a fighter for decades and has focused on the needs of our community all her life. She doesn't just react, she is proactive. From tackling bullying, fighting for Common-sense Gun reform as the Everytown for Gun Safety endorsed candidate, and helping to open the first Planned Parenthood in Chicago's West Loop at a time where there were few safe opportunities for women to see reproductive care in the area.

At a time when reproductive rights are under greater threat than ever before, I trust Marie to be an active, not passive, supporter of my rights, and I look forward to voting for her in the IL Democratic primary on June 28th.
