FDA regulators are asleep at the switch

The reporting on the baby formula crisis does not dig deep enough to explain to the mothers what the root causes are.

FDA has told Abbott for almost a year that they have to clean up their filthy manufacturing plant. In addition, Mead Johnson and Abbott share (40%) a monopoly on the sale of baby formula in the United States at a high price.

Import regulations prevent Canadian and Mexican baby formula manufacturers to compete in the United States and lower the cost of baby formula.

The FDA is not properly funded to have the manpower, authority and funding to properly inspect drug manufacturing plants.

This goes way beyond baby formula to the root cause of why generic drugs are coming from China and India that are contaminated with cancer-causing agents and the FDA does not have the power to stop it.

Our congressional leadership is asleep at the switch from the top down.
