Absurdities and atrocities

Thank you for your thoughtful editorial on January 6th. The action by the Trump supporters we witnessed on that day one year ago certainly called into question the stability of the democratic form of governing that has been our nation's strength for over two centuries. Sadly, the lies that prompted that action have now become the official viewpoint of many members of the Republican Party who are continuing to inflict further damage to both our heritage and our future. As Voltaire is often quoted as saying: "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." The atrocities that arose from the absurdities that spewed forth from a defeated president did not end on January 6, 2021 - they are still occurring today.
