University conducted respectful remembrance

Kudos to Aurora University for its 9/11 remembrance, the only Chicago-area memorial held Friday, Sept. 10. More than 100 students, employees and alumni attended the noon event at the campus flagpole on the university quadrangle.

Keynote speaker was John McIvor, Aurora University Campus Safety chief and retired FBI agent who recalled working with the FBI team Sept. 11. Other speakers were the Rev. Mark Woolfington, campus chaplain and pastor at Advent Christian Church of the Highlands, LaGrange; and AU students Don Adams of Markham and Eduardo Ortiz, of Chenis City, AL.

After the program, attendees gathered to place small U.S. flags by 13 flags placed in the ground in advance. The 13 flags were in memory of military members killed recently in Afghanistan.
