From the Editor: Find the best ways to enjoy a Midwestern autumn with our Fall Fun Guide

By August, most of us lament how quickly summer seems to have slipped away in the Midwest. But suburban autumns can be pretty spectacular, too - and not just because of the photo-ready foliage.

Fall brings pumpkin patches, apple-picking and so much more. And in our annual Fall Fun guide we offer a detailed look at the festivals and events that make the season special.

This year, that guide will be in your newspaper on Aug. 29 - giving you plenty of time to scope out Oktoberfests, plan a visit to a corn maze or figure out what you are going to bake with the bushel of apples you'll pick.

A lot of work goes into Fall Fun. Organizers enter their events into our online calendar, while reporters and editors seek out others. We spend weeks preparing and editing the many stories and listings.

When you open your Fall Fun guide, you'll get an expansive overview of autumn in the suburbs. You'll find details on Halloween happenings. You will even get a jump on fall tailgating with recipes that will wow friends and family.

Of course, much can change in the coming weeks - especially with rising COVID-19 cases. So check before you leave home to find out if an event has been changed or even canceled.

In the meanwhile, look for Fall Fun on Aug. 29, enjoy what's left of summer and stay safe.
