Facts of Jan. 6 riot can't be spun
Having his nominees for the House committee to investigate the Jan. 6 riot rejected, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has announced Republicans would conduct their own investigation that would focus on why Capitol security was easily overwhelmed by the rioters. What better way to continue this GOP's practice of gas lighting the American public?
All it has to do is convince us that security measures were weakened pre-meditatively to allow an equally pre-meditative assault on the Capitol and that that alleged oversight was the more heinous than the crime. They'll ask you to forget that such an attack hadn't happened since 1814, that it followed a monthslong false narrative which claimed the election was stolen and that two of the many things admirable about the United States, voting and the peaceful transfer of power, were both threatened and possibly irreparably undermined.
Who knows how it will characterize the cops who died that day.
Make no mistake: this GOP won't rest until it finds the facts that fit its purposes, even if it means convincing you that up is down, black is white or day is night. Try as it might, the facts can't be spun.
