Time for real gun control measures

In the March 25 Daily Herald, there were moving and heartfelt tributes for two of the Boulder massacre victims.

Atlanta, El Paso, Sandy Hook and Parkland. The list goes on and on, year after year. And yet we do nothing besides holding candlelight vigils and keeping the victims and survivors in our thoughts and prayers. At what point will our national legislators finally have the courage to say, "Enough is enough" and pass reasonable gun safety legislation?

The only justification for having assault weapons is to kill large numbers of people. They are not necessary for personal protection or hunting.

We need universal background checks, a meaningful waiting period before making a gun purchase, extreme risk protection laws and a ban on all assault weapons.

People should not have to worry about getting shot when shopping, attending school, visiting entertainment venues or just going about in public.
