Vitek for mayor in St. Charles

We're writing in support of 4th Ward Alderman Lora Vitek's candidacy for Mayor of St. Charles.

Ms. Vitek has a progressive view of city government while still honoring our heritage. We wrote to both mayoral candidates with questions about their positions and plans. Vitek was not only prompt to answer but invited us to meet with her to discuss our questions in person.

One theme in our conversation was her desire to increase citizen engagement with city government; all citizens need to be heard, understood and involved equally and be treated equally.

She wants the city to assist the small businesses in the community that have been severely impacted by the pandemic and families who have been affected such as parents who may be called back to work sooner than schools are fully opened or child-care options for younger children fully resume.

Lora has been instrumental in the public-private initiative to complete the First Street Plaza that will provide more public access to the riverfront while driving business to both First Street and Main Street without putting the entire burden on taxpayers.

She would facilitate the redevelopment of the former Charlestowne Mall property, as well as the Pheasant Run property to assure the vitality of our community while encouraging new revenue sources.

We believe that Lora Vitek is the best choice to lead our city council as mayor.
