Exceptional skills

I'm writing to support the candidacy of my good friend Amy Somary for trustee of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. Having known Amy for nearly 20 years, she has the skills, background, political acumen and work ethic to be an exceptional trustee for our community.

A resident of Arlington Heights for 27 years, Amy and her husband Geoff raised their children in this community and benefited greatly from the outstanding amenities offered by the library. Even though her children are grown, Amy continues to see the Library as a pillar of our village. She is mindful that we support the library with substantial property taxes and will make certain the library continues to use that money wisely and that people are aware of the many library services.

Amy's unique skill set includes a journalism degree from the Northwestern University and extensive public relations expertise as a vice president at Edelman in Chicago, where she managed two national accounts during her tenure. Her public relations background would be an incredible asset as the library opens its new makerspace this summer and in promoting collaborations with local businesses, schools and the Arlington Heights Park District.

While serving on the school board as president of Our Lady of the Wayside and in her volunteer work on PTA, athletic boost board, PADS and Feed My Starving Children, Amy gained valuable board experience working in heavy public facing roles. She is approachable, open-minded, practical and hardworking. Amy will provide practical stewardship of our tax dollars while ensuring the Library adheres to its mission - for all of us.
