On limiting speech

A few recent posts have demonstrated the lack of understanding people have about freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. Who is stifling your speech? Facebook and Twitter? Tech companies and corporations? People with opposing political views? These do not violate your rights. These private groups are within their rights to limit your speech. Is the government limiting your speech? There is the violation. The First Amendment guarantees (with a few exceptions) that the government can't limit your free speech. Just as other provisions in the Constitution, the First Amendment is there to protect you from the government infringing on your rights.
