Impressive first term

We are writing to support the reelection of Lauren Underwood to represent Illinois 14th District. Congresswoman Underwood has a staggering work ethic. She serves on three House committees and currently chairs a Homeland Security subcommittee.

She has also hosted 20 public town hall meetings across the seven counties of the 14th District and returned $11.1 million in savings and earned benefits directly to her constituents. Impressively, she has also passed three bipartisan pieces of legislation into law: the Lower Insulin Costs Now Act, the Border Patrol Medical Screening Standards Act and the Commission on America's Medical Security Act.

These accomplishments would be reason enough to return Lauren Underwood to the House of Representatives. One of her most important attributes to us, though, is her bipartisan collaboration in a time of such intense polarization. Congresswoman Underwood often reminds us that she is here to serve every constituent in her district, not just her supporters.

The Chicago Tribune, a traditionally conservative paper, has endorsed her, along with the Chicago Sun-Times and The Northwest Herald. In its endorsement, The Daily Herald writes: "Her ability to connect with people from many walks shows she can build consensus on the Hill ... she prides herself on working in a bipartisan way to get legislation passed ... A few of her ideas - notably controls on insulin prices - have found their way into legislation President Donald Trump has signed."

Especially during a pandemic, with health care issues being vigorously debated, the Illinois 14th District is lucky to have such a knowledgeable, committed, hardworking representative. Lauren Underwood deserves to be reelected.
