Misguided support

I actually guffawed when I read Kristin Kocan's Sept. 1 letter to the editor. She was pointing out where William Brinkman was misguided in his complaint regarding a Jeanne Ives' campaign event. Nothing wrong with a candidate having a rally, but Ms. Kocan then goes on to claim that Mr. Brinkman "heard a comment" that he attributed to Ms. Ives. Ms. Kocan should pay closer attention to what her candidate of choice actually says, because what Mr. Brinkman quoted is what Jeanne Ives said.

Jeanne Ives was contacted for a statement by WGN after her event in Lake Zurich where people were spotted not wearing masks and not social distancing. Ms. Ives' response to the masks and social distancing was, "Drive through most suburban towns and the city of Chicago and you will see people dining outdoors without masks." She then went on to say "Everyone behaved appropriately and respectfully. No one tore down any statues or looted any businesses. These are adults who are capable of making their own decisions."

Ms. Kocan goes on to chastise Mr. Brinkman by writing "On the topic of looting and tearing down statues, these actions are very hurtful to many people both within and outside the 6th District. Why make light of this theft and destruction by implying that these criminal actions are nothing compared with being at an outside rally without a mask?" Good question and one she should ask of the speaker, Jeanne Ives.

Jeanne Ives is not good for Illinois District 6 or for the United States of America.
