Liability loopholes stifle manufacturers
We all have our differing opinions on our legal system. However, at the end of the day, I believe we can all agree that small business owners and manufacturers shouldn't be destroyed by a lawsuit over something they could not control.
Unfortunately, under Illinois' product liability laws, this happens over and over again. Under product liability, a manufacturer can be sued over an incident they never could have predicted or prevented. A manufacturer can even be sued over an accident that resulted from a consumer misusing a perfectly safe product.
As the president of a manufacturing business myself, I know how hard manufacturers work to make their products as safe and reliable as possible. The last thing they want is for someone to get hurt. And yet, they're continuously destroyed by meritless lawsuits due to the many loopholes within our product liability laws.
Our Illinois courtrooms need to be cleared of these ridiculous lawsuits and make room for legitimate cases. Through proper product liability reform, we can keep our business owners and manufacturers protected and our legal system fair.
