Right thing, this time
During the Great Recession, hypocrites inside and outside of the government kept talking about expansionary austerity and how, that was the time for the government to tighten its belt just like ordinary Americans had to tighten their belts.
Now, when Republican power is at stake, they are hastening to do the right thing to prevent unnecessary additional suffering.
The biggest difference between then and now is who occupies the presidency. If government action is necessary to preserve oligarchic power, then it's good. If government action might help a black guy stay in office, then it's bad.
They are doing now what Keynesian economics says ought to be done, and they should have done the same thing 11 years ago.
