Alzheimer's and virus

During the coronavirus crisis, I would like to offer some suggestions to assist in caring for your loved one with Alzheimer's disease at home. I have battled this disease for 10 years with my husband. He is in the 10% to 15% of patients who are in very slow decline. Since we are strictly practicing social distancing, I had to cancel my once-a-week caregiver. That would be a first step. Secondly, do not change your routine. Continue to give medication at the appointed time. Keep meals on schedule. Keep diet as usual as much as possible. Keep hygiene the same (shower days) but add much more hand washing. Your loved one may notice your stress, but I doubt that. Actually, if he/she does not, that is a good thing. Sometimes Alzheimer's can be a blessing. Do not forget to take care of yourself. Without a care giver coming into your home, perhaps taking a daily break is something you could consider. Stay well. Stay healthy.
