Did I miss something?

Was I dreaming during religion class at St. Joe's? I thought something was mentioned about respect, honesty and integrity. Did Sister Alacoque cover that?

When was it that we discussed topics like swearing under oath (so help me, God). I remember vividly that lying under oath would place a dark stain on my soul that required sorrow and forgiveness. Did I misunderstand?

Over the past three-plus years, the painstaking measures taken by our president to obstruct congressional investigations regarding probable wrongdoing have been abundantly obvious to anyone with open eyes and ears. Well-regarded, seasoned, high-level diplomats testified under oath to presidential misbehavior. At what point does it become appropriate or even patriotic for a subordinate to blow the whistle on the boss?

The president of course denied and the self-righteous Republican Senate seemed to take great pleasure in thumbing their noses to the facts and to their solemn oath to uphold the truth. (But the stock markets are doing so well.) It took a highly principled and faith-filled Mormon to have the courage to vote how his faith required and for what was right despite the outrage that would follow.

How many of the remaining 52 with Bible under their arms claim to be God-loving, God-fearing Christians? Because our president claims to be a pro-life and traditional family-values advocate are we conservative Republicans supposed to close our eyes and ears to what is happening? Hopefully, our minds haven't become so narrow that we can't simultaneously uphold more than one or two of our core values. Is that too much to expect of our president?

You can be sure that the type of deceit on display was not taught by Sister Alacoque; I doubt that conservative Christians were taught that either.
