We must respond to bigotry, hate, greed

This in response to the Daily Herald editorial of Feb. 6, 2019, "Test of leadership now is whether president, others are serious about unity."

Following the impeachment trial coverup by the Senate and the State of the Union speech, which was more like a campaign speech, I appreciate the Herald's fair mindedness in advising that both sides set aside their differences and unite for the sake of the country. Sadly, however, I imagine that any day now, The Great Unifier will have a Feed My Starving Ego Rally to gloat, bloat, feed more red meat to his indoctrinated base and insult the other half of the country who are American patriots resistant to cult mentality. He wouldn't dare reach across the aisle at this time to attempt reunification because that would disappoint his base and he needs them all, including "those very good people" that have been inspired to action by him, to gain reelection.

Democrats are justified in responding to Trump the way they do, contrary to the Herald's opinion that the behavior of both sides are equally culpable. Trump created this divisive culture. To not respond to the Trumpist Party (formerly known as the Republican Party, or GOP) hypocrisy is to allow our country to decline before our eyes. I hope all greedy Senate traitors are voted out of office.

Also, if the Party Of Christian Family Values can support an impeached president who proclaims he can kiss and grab women whenever he wants as well as elevate the bigoted St. Rush to sainthood, then I can fully support Speaker Pelosi in symbolically ripping up a piece of paper in defiance. She's 80 years old in March, she too can do whatever she wants.
