Senators should show some courage

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of the noun "courage" is "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty." Republicans in the Senate, listening to the evidence in the trial of Donald Trump need to reach back in their past and find the courage to speak out and vote for a fair trial with witnesses and documents.

To run for any elected office takes money, of course, but it also takes courage. Organizing folks to believe in what YOU believe in takes perseverance. These Senators might have started their political careers as village trustees, lawyers for large corporations, small town mayors, or even dog catchers. Their beginnings might have been humble, but they rose through the ranks to become Senators representing their state. They needed courage and moral strength to advance to their present office.

We all know that Donald Trump is a danger to our constitution, to our rule of law. His supporters argue that their 401Ks are doing well so what does it matter if he lies a lot.

To prove his innocence or guilt to the two articles of impeachment, the trial has to proceed with arguments from both parties and witnesses and documents. Now comes the courage that each Republican needs, to speak out for that fair trial. They might fear the wrath of Donald Trumps tweets or the danger of loosing votes from his small base if they go against Moscow Mitch.

Even the lion in The Wizard of OZ found the courage to do what was right. We need those Republicans with moral strength to find their voice, to face their fears, to become the lions of courage.
