Letter: Balance solves more than extremes

I have heard about global warming since my college days at the University of Colorado between 1988 and 1993. And I am a green, so to speak.

But I think we, as a species, need to be careful about the trends in our society. I have seen communism thrown out and attacks on capitalism begin to rise.

The beginnings of green economics and green politics have been initiated and while positive green neoliberal policies have been advocated, I believe we need to remember that there is no single panacea to the human situation.

Our future should not be based upon an exclusive philosophy that dismisses the past. We are better than a simple philosophy.

The best we can offer for future generations is a hybrid solution. There is a place for limited capitalism, democratic principles, socialist doctrine and green economics.

We, as a society, should gleam the better parts of our political and economic theories to establish a future.

Absolute capitalism has not been the answer. Nor has the democracy of the popular been the answer. Nor has socialist propaganda been the solution. And green neoliberalism will not save us from ourselves.

We will find that green policies take away our freedoms to travel, take away our needs for personal space, take away our habits and take away our desired diets.

Yet, some variation that incorporates each of these political and economic agendas may be the answer.

Are we only able to go to extremes in policy or are we capable of a hybridization that will ensure a future with a balance and logic that supersedes today's standards?
