Washington's soap opera

I'm sure there are career paths that guarantee greater longevity than being a whistle-blower in Washington, D.C.

But if everybody remained as mute and indifferent to the flaming out of our democracy as Senate Republicans, then America would be little more than a Third World country.

And wouldn't that really be the ultimate dream come true for Donald Trump and the Trump family?

How long has it been since the first family of Iraq (Saddam, Uday and Qusay) were eliminated? The void left behind with their abrupt departure has never been adequately filled.

Now we must ask:

• Will the Trumps be allowed to step into that black hole or will impeachment impede their steady progress?

• Will normalcy ever return to our kingdom and will Rudy finally be rewarded for his loyalty with a brain stem from the wizard?

As our lives continue to get more bizarre and complicated, we can only be thankful that this ongoing soap opera provides late night comedians with a plentiful supply of new material.
