Fireworks and freedom

In this era of progressive truth some choose to determine what is good for themselves. In doing so, the good of others is involuntarily forfeited. Is it not ironic that Independence Day once commemorated the birth of a new nation seeking freedom from an oppressive form of government? Yet the holiday under discussion now facilitates unbridled disregard for the law in our neighborhoods.

The night of, an explosion of white shook our house, activating our home security system. Unfortunately, pets and peace-loving folks are the passive casualties in the process with no recourse to the problem. For some, it has degenerated into a holiday of selfish, arrogance, and narcissistic behavior.

George Bernard Shaw nailed it: "Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it."
