The amendments politicians 'overlooked'
I've previously signed several petitions for constitutional amendments to implement term limits and create an impartial method for redistricting. Both were shot down by the courts for technical issues when challenged by our esteemed legislators. Now I'm amazed at their swift action in pushing through the so-called "Fair Tax" amendment.
When they want an amendment, it's no problem, when the people of Illinois want an amendment that would limit the politicians' ability to stay in office, it takes years of effort with no results.
Illinois is deep in debt and cannot pay its bills, yet our governor has proposed new programs. How about reducing the debt and getting the budget balanced before adding new spending? If they would pair the tax amendment with another to solve the pension crisis, I would vote for both. But I won't vote for the tax amendment by itself.
If approved, I fully expect they would lower the bracket limits and/or increase the tax rates to solve the next budget crisis.
