Standing for inclusion

Recently, the First United Methodist Church of Elgin adopted and published a statement in opposition to the decision made by our denomination regarding the exclusion of gay and lesbian persons as whole members of the body of Christ. It was a bold statement of belief and an important step in the hoped-for transformation of the United Methodist Church.

As members of Wesley United Methodist Church of Elgin, we wish to stand with our friends at First and elsewhere in denouncing the position taken by the Special Session of UMC. We shall continue to obey church law, but we shall remain open and welcoming to our LGBTQ community of friends and work toward a more loving and inclusive view of others.
