Gilbert for Schaumburg Township District Library board

It is obvious that the recommendations of the Daily Herald editorial board for Schaumburg Township District Library were based entirely on interviews with the candidates. It would serve the public better to have looked at their qualifications and discussed their passion for serving as a library trustee.

I have served with all the current incumbents during my 40 years as a library trustee. In all those years I have never met anyone seeking that office with the passion for, and knowledge of libraries who compares to Emily Gilbert.

Emily attended almost a year of board meetings before she had decided to become a candidate, something no one has ever done. She uses the library weekly with her 2-year-old daughter. Her training and professional qualifications as an academic librarian give her an in-depth knowledge of advanced library operations.

One of the current trustees, Jillian Bernes, started running for political office almost immediately after being elected as a trustee and has lost in both elections for state representative. Her almost sole contribution to the library board has been to correct spelling and punctuation of the board minutes, hardly a recommendation.

To continue the excellence of the Schaumburg Township Public Library, I most strongly recommend that you vote for Emily Gilbert.
