Good work on environmental issues

Kudos to DuPage County Board Member Liz Chaplin, chair of the Environmental Committee. At the March 12 meeting, member Chaplin indicated she is working with Kay McKeen of SCARCE and Sheriff Jim Mendrick on a number of environmental initiatives.

Among them are the safe collection of needles and sharps in April, energy conservation at the county jail and alternative fuels for vehicles. Additionally, they are working with the JUST DuPage organization to build a community garden at the jail, installed by nonviolent inmates, which would be available to schools and other community groups.

Also, SCARCE will look into providing text books for incarcerated people, and also books for a library for their children. Way to go, Liz and Kay.
