Building on success in Prospect Heights

It came as quite a surprise to me how casually, and in my opinion, flippantly, you threw our current mayor, Nick Helmer, under the bus. Your reasoning for your endorsement of his opponent being solely and weakly just for the sake of change, ignoring all that Mayor Helmer has done for his city in his short eight years in office.

This city was in such dire shape when he first took office under the previous so called leadership that preceded him, this letter would be too long to describe all the problems he encountered, which I'm sure most residents are well aware of.

So his first four years had to be spent on, not building on top of what the previous administrations left, but righting the rudder of a sinking ship and drowning community. He didn't complain, but rather rolled up his sleeves and went to work attacking the problems aggressively and intelligently, successfully getting the ship of the city back on track and sailing in the right direction.

Yes, I'm sure he has rubbed some noses the wrong way in his efforts to accomplish all that he has achieved. There seems to be a reluctance by some of our elected officials and residents to move the city forward, but he succeeded in spite of that.

While I am a strong proponent of term limits, change just for change sake, in this instance, is not a sound reason for your recommendation.

I sincerely believe he has the experience, the connections and the will to complete what he said he would do when first elected, and that is, make Prospect Heights a better place for all the residents and a city we can be proud to call our home.
