Endorsement for Mount Prospect school board: Fay, Kobus, Rothrauff

Four candidates are running for three school board seats in Mount Prospect Elementary District 57, with board President Joe Sonnefeldt and board member Dennis Composto stepping aside.

That leaves Jennifer Kobus as the lone incumbent seeking re-election. She's done a good job and exercises good judgment in balancing priorities. We endorse her for re-election and think her experience is an important plus, particularly with the departures of Sonnefeldt and Composto.

It is difficult to choose between the three non-incumbents. All seem dedicated and would make good board members.

Our last two endorsements go to Kimberly Fay, an immigration and victims' rights attorney whose understanding and judgment on school issues is masterful, and to Racheal Rothrauff, a high school teacher with a broad grasp of the challenges elementary schools face.

Kristine O'Sullivan, a communications manager and cybersecurity specialist, advocates for stronger community engagement. She'd be a good board member too, and if she's not elected, we encourage the board to consider her for an appointment should a spot become open.
