Endorsements: Andrejek, Bisesi, Cooley, Ennis for Rolling Meadows Park Commissioner
In some communities, park board races have trouble generating qualified candidates. In the Rolling Meadows Park District, five people are running for four seats and every one of them is a strong candidate.
Three are incumbents: Bill Cooley, a park commissioner for 12 years and currently the board's vice president; and Dave Andrejek and Donna Bisesi, park commissioners for eight years. Two are newcomers: Stephanie Ennis and Emily Ford, both teachers and parents who brim with enthusiasm for the park district.
Any one of these five would be an able member of the park board, and it's too bad the voters can't elect them all.
Particularly given the departure of the park board president, who is forgoing a re-election bid in order to run for the Rolling Meadows City Council and the likelihood that a senior leader or two on the park district staff will be retiring soon, experience matters more than ever this election.
That being the case, we endorse all three incumbents. Andrejek, Bisesi and Cooley are exemplary commissioners who display dedication and good judgment. Each deserves another term on the board.
For the fourth seat on the board, we endorse Ennis, a Rolling Meadows native with a spirit of volunteerism whose priority is updating and renovating the park facilities.
We're sorry we can't endorse Ford too. If she's not elected, we hope the park board keeps an eye on her for any future openings.
