Rude comments are like fighting ghosts

Mr. Bill Sherwin writes in Your Views (Daily Herald, Feb. 21,) that Naperville and "every town" has white supremacist policies. However, he, like Rep. Stava-Murray, offers no evidence nor examples of specific policies, laws or regulations that promote or are rooted in white supremacy. That is not helpful. If the intentions of Mr. Sherwin and Ms. Stava-Murray are to have American citizens recognize these policies as racist and work to correct them, then they must identify the policies and explain, with evidence, why they are racist.

Like claims of institutional racism without identifying the racist institutions and proof of their racism, sweeping and unsubstantiated claims of white supremacist policies don't provide specific targets for change. It's like fighting ghosts.
