Honesty with regard to late-term abortions

Recent letter writer Julie Sass asked for honesty with regard to late-term abortion. A late-term abortion is a procedure by which a viable unborn human is killed and extracted from its mother's womb. According to the Center for Disease Control, it accounts for roughly 1.3 percent of all reported abortions (a figure that is incomplete since all states do not report their abortion procedures).

Given a reported figure of 926,000 intentional deaths of unborn humans as reported by the Guttmacher Institute in its most recent statistics on annual abortions in America and you arrive at 12,038 deaths by late-term abortion in a year. You can judge for yourself if the legalized killing of 12,038 people a year makes you uncomfortable.

All the noise about late-term abortion is rather moot when you consider that a human has a beating heart within two to three weeks of conception (according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists). What really matters is that every act of abortion, no matter the time or reason, destroys an innocent life. Wouldn't our world be better served by working together to make abortion unthinkable?
