Making it easy to love thy neighbors

During this past frigid cold spell, we were snug and comfortable thanks to a group of neighbors who were there for us. We are octogenarians with minimal walking ability, who live on a corner with a large driveway, a lot of sidewalks and an entry with several steps, making it difficult to navigate with all the blowing snow.

Our family made sure we had adequate food and water so we did not have to venture out. We also had wonderful neighbors who shoveled the snow for us, called to see how we were doing, picked up our "meds" for us and brought our paper and mail right up to our door for us - always with a smile and "call us if you need anything." You can't beat that for loving kindness.

Shopping locally with a rider sometimes makes it difficult to reach that elusive package of cereal on the top shelf, the store employees are right there to help, and even regular customers stop and ask if they get something down for us always with a kind word or two.

Twenty years ago when we moved to Batavia, we knew we made the right choice. The area is beautiful, slightly rural and has quiet neighborhoods and a multitude of other great qualities, but most of all the friendship of the Batavia people is what makes our town great and a wonderful place to live in.

There was a warm glow in our hearts from all of our neighbors and friends who helped us during those bitter cold days and we wanted to say thanks to all of you for it making it easy to - Love Thy Neighbor.
